Description
Ever wonder what Diglett and Dugtrio look like beneath the surface?
Diglett (Surface form)
Mole Pokemon
Type: Ground
Ht. 1' 04"/ Wt. 3.2 lbs.
Ability: Sand Force
Marix20 Dex: Diglett keeps the rest of it's body underground since it needs to constantly absorb minerals from the dirt to stay alive. Feeding it an item called Mineral Candy gives it enough energy to to stay out of the ground for at least 4 days. When the supply of minerals is depleted, it submerges its bottom halve back into the earth.
Dugtrio (Surface form)
Mole Pokemon
Type: Ground-Rock
Ht. 3' 03"/ Wt. 90.3 lbs.
Ability: Sand Force
From Diglett Lvl. 26
Marix20 Dex: The bottom halve of Dugtrio is made of solid rock, but remains a pure Ground-type as long as it is underground. If this Pokemon eats a Mineral Candy, it comes out of the ground and gains the Rock-type, in addition to Ground.
Using an item called Mineral Candy on a wild Diglett or Dugtrio gets them to come out of the ground.

This kind of body for Diglett makes sense. It's confirmed in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team that Diglett has feet, and I'm pretty sure moles in real life have claws (otherwise, Diglett wouldn't be able to use Scratch, Cut, or Slash, but on the other hand, Diglett is based more on Whack-A-Mole than real moles).
I thought little of what Dugtrio would look like, but this works even though I'd rather Dugtrio stay a pure Ground-type even if it's on the surface. In my opinion, Ground-types are made weaker by the Rock-type due to having multiple double weaknesses with the main benefit being a resistance to Normal-type attacks.
